A greeting from Pax and Patsy by Pax and Patsy from Pax and Patsy

Just a few lines to wish you a most enjoyable birthday bash on the banks of the Erne. It will be a most enjoyable gathering at such a beautiful setting. As a young married man, Gerry, you must have had the patience of Jove! Your mother-in-law (my mother R.I.P.) decreed that you and Rosemary, on your first summer holiday together as husband and wife should take her son Pax with you. Talk about a "fly in the ointment"! I had just left Maynooth after a year aspiring to the priesthood! I suppose my mother thought that Rosemary and Gerry were perfect role models for the young Pax who was at that stage in a "limbo" between choosing a new career.

Forty-six years later, Gerry, my apologies for ruining a most romantic holiday for the young newly-weds through beautiful Connemara!

Please find enclosed this little poem, which I hope you will enjoy.

Lots of love
Pax and Patsy

THE FEYSTOWN BOY, BY PAX O'CONNOR

As a nurse in the Mater,
She earned her first cash,
Round the nightspots of Belfast,
She sure cut a dash.
Caught the eye of a Glensman
Young Gerry by name
He haled from Glenarm
And our Rosie did charm
With his handsome dark curls
And dashing good looks
A hurler supreme with medals abound
The gallant lad from Feystown
Did not hang around.
The young couple were wed
And a great day was had
Singing 'n' dancing by every lass and lad.
Fruithill near the Falls was to be their first pad
As the years marched along
A fine family they had;
All handsome and witty
And with brains to burn
They've all left their mark,
Each in their turn.
The young dad from the glens
A teacher to trade
Soon changed chalk and cane
For chisel and plane
And built houses in hundreds
And then moved again
To the beautiful Colinton
On the banks of the Lough
Beside Fortwilliam's fairways.
He soon mastered the game
Winning trophies galore.
Reached the dizzy heights of captain
Sure I'll blow him no more!
The North Antrim lad's talent
He's not stopped at golf.
At the card game of Bridge
He's sure been around...
Winning prizes from Dublin to Donegal Town.
Happy Birthday dear Gerry
Drink up and be merry
I'll finish my story and
Wish you good cheer
With your family around
And for many's a year
Pax Vobiscium
Ad Multos Annos
